Between the going out almost every single night to the oppressive heat to the countless hot gay men (and girls) from countries far and wide invading this city, there’s no doubt that Chicago was the gayest place on Earth.
But now it’s over. And life, somehow, has to return back to normal.
I’m glad that I got a chance to at least go to the opening and closing ceremonies. If I hadn’t gone, I would have felt like I missed something, for sure… but now that I’ve been there and experienced it firsthand, I know I would have hated myself in the end.
Today’s PadCast sums up my feelings on the Gay Games– from the
ridiculously long opening ceremonies, to the perfectly timed and performed closing ceremonies; and of course highlighting the appearance of the delightful Cyndi Lauper, dressed only as Cyndi could be dressed– in Pride Statue of Liberty drag. Gotta love her.
So after listening, please comment and let me know your thoughts on the games. Were you there? What did you see? What did you hate? What did you love? And would you ever go if you had the chance?

Two things:
1) Do you have Cyndi’s “At Last” album of standards? It’s fantastic.
2) I can hear your kitties in the background. Cute!
Comment by Scott-O-Rama July 25, 2006 @ 5:41 amI was at the Gay Games opening and closing ceremonies when they were in NYC back in 1993 or 94. I went by myself for the opening and loved it. Maybe I was so newly out that they could have just sat on the field for three hours and napped and I would have cheered, but it was very exciting for me.
Closing ceremony with a bunch of friends was off the hook. Crystal Waters, Lisa Lisa, and Patti LaBelle singing Over the Rainbow. I didn’t know I could scream that loud. Although that night did seem to go on too long with the final parade of athletes and Harvey Firestein rasping “We are so proud of you” 4 gazillion times.
Comment by David July 25, 2006 @ 11:25 amI’ll listen to this today! Sometimes when I try to talk about the opening ceremony, I get choked up. The closing just felt like a big PARTY and was a blast!
Comment by hot toddy July 25, 2006 @ 2:17 pmI love her now more than ever. Enter the Divine Ms. Lauper as the Sublime Ms. Liberty in diversity drag! I had never heard her in person. She was in full voice, powerful, and her lyrics were never more meaningful. I love her. I love her. I love her!!!!
